This DHT22 Digital Temperature and Humidity Sensor Module is a ready-to-use environmental sensing solution designed for microcontroller and SBC projects that need convenient, digital measurement of ambient temperature and relative humidity. The module format provides a simple 3-pin connection (VCC, DATA, GND) and is commonly used in Arduino-compatible builds, ESP32/ESP8266 IoT nodes, and Raspberry Pi GPIO projects. The vented protective housing allows air exchange to the sensing element while helping protect it from accidental touch and minor debris, making it practical for prototypes and light-duty installations.
The DHT22-type sensor integrates a humidity sensing element, a temperature sensor, and an internal signal conditioning/ADC stage that outputs calibrated digital data over a single-wire style protocol. Instead of requiring analog inputs, the module communicates using timed digital pulses that represent humidity and temperature data frames. This makes it a strong choice where analog noise, ADC resolution limits, or long-term drift are concerns.
Because the protocol relies on timing, best results come from using well-supported libraries and ensuring stable power and correct pull-up behavior on the data line. Many DHT22 modules include an onboard pull-up resistor or related conditioning components; however, exact component values and presence can vary by module revision. If your controller or wiring length is unusual, consult the module PCB markings and the sensor datasheet to confirm whether an external pull-up is required and what value is recommended.
Sampling behavior is also an important integration detail: DHT22-class sensors are typically intended for periodic measurements rather than high-speed polling. Reading too frequently can lead to repeated values or communication errors. Use appropriate delays between reads as recommended by your library and the datasheet for your specific sensor/module revision.
