The Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W is the wireless version of the Pico 2, built on Raspberry Pi's own RP2350 chip. Dual Cortex-M33 cores at 150 MHz, 520 KB of SRAM, 4 MB of on-board flash, plus 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 5.2.

Where it sits against an ESP32. The ESP32 has a longer track record for WiFi projects and a bigger library ecosystem. The Pico 2 W's advantages are official Raspberry Pi support and documentation, genuinely excellent MicroPython, and the PIO block — programmable state machines that generate precise timed signals in hardware. PIO is what lets a Pico drive WS2812 LED strips, read unusual protocols and produce exact waveforms without tying up a core.

Good for learners. MicroPython on a Pico is the gentlest route into embedded programming — plug it in, it appears as a drive, edit a file and it runs. No toolchain, no board manager, no driver hunting.
