This 20mm ultrasonic humidifier atomizer disc is a piezoelectric transducer element commonly used as the vibrating “mist plate” inside compact humidifiers, aroma diffusers, and small fogger/atomizer assemblies. The disc is marked “BTC 8388” and includes attached lead wires, making it suitable for replacement repairs or for integrating into a custom DIY atomization project where a dedicated ultrasonic driver is used.
Ultrasonic atomization works by exciting the piezoelectric ceramic at ultrasonic frequency. When driven correctly, the disc flexes at high speed, coupling energy into the water film on its surface. This creates capillary waves and micro-droplet ejection, producing a visible cool mist without heating. Because the transducer is only one part of the system, overall mist output depends heavily on the driver circuit, mechanical mounting, water depth, and the condition of the atomizing surface.
The disc is a piezoelectric ceramic bonded to a metal substrate. Applying an alternating electrical signal causes the ceramic to expand/contract, bending the composite disc. In typical humidifier designs, the disc is clamped into a holder with a sealing ring so that only the active face contacts water while the electrical connections remain isolated. Correct preload and sealing are important: uneven clamping or water ingress to the solder joints can reduce output or cause premature failure.
Drive requirements are not universal. Many 20mm atomizer discs are designed for ultrasonic operation (often around the MHz range), but the exact resonant frequency, drive voltage, and power rating can vary by module revision and manufacturer. For best results, use a driver board intended for a 20mm atomizer disc and follow the driver’s recommended wiring, water level, and mounting method. Operating far from resonance or overdriving can cause overheating, cracking, delamination, or reduced mist production.
Use a dedicated ultrasonic atomizer driver designed for a 20mm disc; do not connect directly to DC power. Ensure correct polarity/connection as required by the driver (some drivers are AC-coupled, others reference a ground). Mount the disc in a proper holder with a sealing ring to prevent leaks and protect solder joints from corrosion. Maintain the recommended water level above the disc surface (varies by enclosure design). Mineral buildup can reduce mist output; use clean water and clean/replace the disc as needed. If mist output is weak, check for poor clamping, incorrect driver frequency, insufficient drive power, or surface scaling.
